SENEGAL: DOCUMENTARY FOR SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGES BELGIUMDocumentary — Field production
In September and October 2026, I traveled to Fatick, Kaffrine and Diokoul, Senegal, to film testimonies for SOS Children's Villages Belgium, as part of the Children4Change programme.
Over six days, we met talibés, children and young people who grow up in Quranic schools, often far from their own families. We filmed in the daaras where they live and learn, sat down with their Quranic teachers, and shared meals with the women in the community who look after them as sponsor mothers. We met young former talibés who now run their own business, repairing phones, doing hair, milling grain. And we spent a day with a children's council recording their own radio programme, made by them, for their community.
The goal was to show change through the people who lived it. Not as a success story told from the outside, but as testimonies in their own words, about where they started, what shifted, and what they hope for next.
This project meant working across Wolof, French and English, moving between daaras, homes, workshops and community meetings, and building trust with children before the camera ever came out.
